Background Information

Dr’s Moskal and Cottrell are Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and are the only recognized dental specialist who, after completing dental school, have been surgically trained in a hospital based residency program for a minimum of four years.  They trained alongside medical residents in internal medicine, general surgery, and anesthesiology, and also spent time in otolaryngology, plastic surgery, trauma surgery and other specialty areas. Their training focused almost exclusively on the hard (ie. bone) and soft (ie. skin, muscle) tissue of the face, mouth and jaws. Their knowledge and surgical expertise uniquely qualify them to diagnose and treat the functional and aesthetic conditions in this anatomical area. The scope of our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice includes, among others:

Outpatient Anesthesia

Dentoalveolar Surgery to manage diseases of the teeth and their supporting soft and hard tissues

Dental Implants and various Bone Grafting techniques

Surgical Correction of Maxillofacial Skeletal Deformities

Facial Trauma Surgery

Pathologic Conditions, such as benign tumors and cysts

.          Dr.’s Moskal and Cottrell manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. They have expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to management of infections and reconstructive jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. They can also diagnose and treat facial pain, injuries, and fractures. Each doctor has also had extensive training and experience with Anesthesia and Pain Management. Our doctors will help you decide which anesthetic would be best for you; from local anesthesia (Novocaine), oral and conscious sedation to intravenous general anesthesia.  Everyone should feel comfortable knowing that there are anesthetic options and that almost all procedures can be performed comfortably and while asleep.

Our staff is trained in assisting with Intravenous (IV) sedation or outpatient general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery.

Our surgical staff at Dr Moskal’s office are experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants, who provide constant patient care and monitoring from the time a patient enters a treatment room until the patient leaves our state-of-the-art office setting.  They also assist during administration of IV sedation and surgery.

All of our administrative and surgical assistants routinely undergo emergency drills, in addition to continuing education and testing. They are highly trained in outpatient anesthetic techniques and are all certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) .
